What’s going on?!

Well, the social media world is about to change, seriously! A new anti-Facebook platform just launched and is about to change all the social media statistics. Wikipedia founder “Jimmy Wales” is launching an anti-Facebook, and it already gained 200,000 users days after launching. See?! The map is definitely going to change!

Facebook...

The so famous social media platform, Facebook. It is an online social media platform that was first founded in February 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, and originated in the United States of America. The platform at first was limited to some of the colleges in the United States, starting with Harvard, following it was Colombia and Yale...etc. Then the platform was open to the public, and as we can all see nowadays, it is ruling!

WikiTribune- the Anti-Facebook!

Wales, Wikipedia founder has just launched the new anti-Facebook platform, WikiTribune Social. The platform isn’t anywhere near Facebook yet, but it has managed to draw in 200,000 users in a few days of its launch. Wales isn’t targeting to be a Facebook-Similar platform, and that he’s not targeting millions of users like Facebook, what he’s really focusing on is launching a more of a “News-platform” that its aim is to tackle the “Clickbait nonsense” and “Fake news” that are so prevalent on other platforms.

Wikitribune is looking forward to be different and unique in every way possible; to make users feel safe and enjoy reading the news and know what’s going on on other sides of the world on an ad-free social platforms. Wales believes that "Fake news has influenced global events, and algorithms care only about 'engagement', and keeping people addicted to platforms without substance”, and that’s exactly what he’s trying to avoid on “Wikitribune”.

How do users use the new platforms?!

It’s similar to other platforms in terms of posting, but what’s different about it is that any user can edit or delete other users’ content if they found it fake, offensive, wrong...etc. which is arguably a more problematic and complex model than the one used to generate conversations on Twitter and Facebook. Wales’ point of view about this matter is that it would be a huge incentive for spreading good behaviour on social media platforms, if a user says something obnoxious, another would just delete it. So, with time, people would not write anything unless they’re sure of it and would never be offensive to avoid having their posts deleted.

An “upvote” button would be added as well, it would act as a “recommendation” button to defend and promote quality stories. It’s still allowing a limited number of users due to servers’ capacities, and available in English language only, but they are looking forward that the platform would eventually expand and would include more language versions in the near future.

So what is going to happen next?!

Well, from Wales’ reports to the “Financial Times” and based on the article written by “The Business Insider”, this platform is going to attract lots of users, the community nowadays is looking for something more simple and honest to know information and latest news from, and if this platform would really handle it right, then we say it is going to be some place else real soon!
